The ‘4×4 sugar heritage tour‘ takes guests for a look around the 300-year legacy of sugar production on the island and includes a trip to Shadell Great House. Not far from the port you will find Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park. The fort was built in the 17th century and is located at the top of an 800-foot hill that looks down over the Caribbean sea offering stunning views. The fort is pretty impressive as its the most preserved fort in the Caribbean and is now named one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Make a point of enjoying the local favorites such as jerk chicken, candied sweet potatoes’, huge lobsters, suckling pig among others. The Port Zante Mall, located at the cruise terminal, has approximately 60 shops, many of which specialize in jewelry and other luxury goods.
You can reach Romney Manor and Caribelle Batik by taking a taxi from Basseterre. The stone chimneys and windmills of a once thriving sugar industry can be found all over St Kitts. At Wingfield Estate you can visit the ruins of an old sugar mill for an insight into the sugar industry. Visitors would pass through it from the port and upstairs you’ll find the small National Museum. The complex holds aslo the Caribelle Batik, where you can watch artisans hand-printing Sea Island cotton into beautiful batik fabrics. The fortress, nowadays an UNESCO World Heritage Site, protected the British interests in this part of the Caribbean during the 18th and 19th centuries.
